Planning a luxury vacation in Sedona is surprisingly easy. While there are several upscale hotels and resorts in this lovely part of Arizona, Enchantment Resort and adjacent Mii Amo destination spa are far and away the best resort hotel property – not just in Sedona Arizona, but the best resort hotel in all of that famous Red Rock Country. In-the-know luxury travel fans from around the world come repeatedly to Enchantment and Mii Amo. And Luxury Travel can state unequivocally that the best couples massage experienced yet, was had right here at Mii Amo. It's the perfect place to stay for a high-end Southwest vacation.
Suites at Enchantment Resort
The rooms are lovely beyond words. Even the smallest one-bedroom suites have distinct areas for sleeping, working (but why?!) and relaxing in front of the TV (again, why? This is in one of the most glorious parts of the US) as well as patios. The decor and architecture perfectly fit with the Sedona topography and culture; casitas in the Southwestern style feel both authentic and absolutely luxurious. Now, this is not the George V in Paris, nor should it be; the red tiles, rustic patios and earth tones throughout simply reflect Sedona. There are haciendas as well. These larger (1,400 sq ft) are fit for luxury family vacations, and children under 12 stay free. Most rooms have views of Boynton Canyon.
Dining
There are three restaurants at Enchantment Resort, along with the in-room dining option (poolside dining is also available during summer months). The Mii Amo Cafe, at the spa, serves healthful meals (but Luxury Travel only had an apple at the spa, hence can't judge). Tii Gavo is the casual restaurant here, and lots of fun. The black bean soup was wonderful; not too thick, but exceptionally flavorful. The special shrimp ceviche appetizer, served in a martini glass, was large enough to split, and the carne asada was somewhat sweet . The mood here is fun and relaxed, with a small yet active bar scene. The most formal, and renown, dining option at Enchantment Resort, however, is The Yavapai restaurant. This is a AAA 4-diamond destination restaurant in itself, with gorgeous views of the red rock formations, elegant atmosphere, and a 6-course tasting menu that really satisfies any guest's culinary curiosity. Try the Sunday brunch; with a plethora of fantastic breakfast and lunch entrees, it's the best way to start off a relaxed vacation day.
Activities for Children
Now, Enchantment Resort is such a lovely, sedate and luxurious property, it's best suited for romantic getaways and special vacations. However, kids under 12 stay free, and that's enticing as well. Camp Coyote is the resort's day camp, for children between ages 4 and 12. Age-appropriate activities include nature walks through Boynton Canyon, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, light education about the local animals and plants, and play time. There are inside and outside play areas, and evening babysitting is available as well.
Mii Amo Luxury Destination Spa
There have been many spas in the professional life of this columnist, and Mii Amo is the best one yet. It elevates the meaning of "destination spa" with its quiet, serene atmosphere, completely separate structure (across a path from Enchantment), glorious views of Boynton Canyon, and some of the most skilled masseuses in the world. People can, and do, spend an entire week here without getting out of their robes. The on-site restaurant doesn't serve disappointing rabbit food, but instead full portions of healthy and delicious meals. Stressed-out guests learn to unwind and enjoy the pampering; the high rate of repeat visitors is a testament to Mii Amo's quality. Travelers can stay at Mii Amo exclusively, or stay at Enchantment and make appointments for treatments of their choosing.
Sedona, Arizona is one of Luxury Travel's favorite vacation destinations in North America. The best luxury resort in this stunning part of the country is Enchantment. At this point, there isn't even a close second.
