The Residence Inn by Marriott in Middletown, provides a lovely, first-class stay for families wanting to trim their luxury travel budget during a Newport RI vacation.
Newport, Rhode Island is a glamorous, upscale town with many great restaurants, a fine selection of activities and attractions, and expensive 5-star hotels. It's easy to spend a disproportionate slice of a vacation budget on lodging alone, but it's unnecessary. The Residence Inn by Marriott is just 2 miles away in Middletown; just as lovely as hotels in downtown Newport, but much more affordable. Luxury Travel recommends it for a more budget-friendly luxury vacation in Newport, Rhode Island.
Accommodations - The Residence Inn by Marriott in Middletown has 97 studios, one bedroom suites, and two bedroom suites. Luxury Travel stayed in a two-bedroom suite, and it was much larger than many apartments in NYC. Full working kitchen, wired and wireless internet, incredibly comfortable bedding, and new flat-screen televisions are all markers of an upscale hotel room. The pull-out sofabed in each room means that an addition two guests can stay in any room type. The suites have living rooms, and the kitchens have adjacent dining areas that easily seat a family of four. Additionally, there is a small outdoors BBQ area with grill, for tired families that can't muster up the energy for an evening out on the town.
Staff - The staff at the Residence Inn is just about the friendliest, nicest hotel staff around. From the young man polishing the control panel in the elevator, to the front desk, everyone was cheery and helpful. Jim P., the Director of Sales, was especially informative regarding Newport activities and attractions. He provided an insider's tip regarding where the free (unmetered) parking could be found for Newport's famous mansion Cliff Walk, for example, and drew a map for a recommended hiking area.
Hotel Amenities - There is a heated, indoor pool and jacuzzi. Young children especially seem to love this pool, so a guest seeking a quiet, relaxing dip should consider going in the evening. There is a business center, and outdoor sports court. The on-site fitness center has the standard equipment (treadmill, free weights, etc), and the bar on the main floor is a relaxing place to relax after a day of Newport RI sightseeing. There is a free breakfast every day: Scrambled eggs, french toast, and other family favorites are served buffet style. The "do it yourself" waffles are especially popular. Members of the Marriott Hotel Rewards Club should know that this is a Category 5 hotel (redeem four nights, and the fifth night is free).
The Neighborhood - Middletown is approximately 2 miles from Newport, and it takes around 7 minutes to drive there during the height of the summer travel season. The Residence Inn by Marriott is the nicest of the three of four hotels in this part of town. An Applebee's is a tenth of a mile away - really, in the same hotel area as the Residence Inn - and half a mile away is the preferable Coddington Brewing Company. Both are open for lunch and dinner, but with Newport's fantastic restaurants so nearby, it's recommended that plans be made to dine in Newport RI rather than Middletown.
The Residence Inn by Marriott is a highly recommended hotel. Even luxury travelers appreciate stretching their vacation budgets, and this hotel is a great way to save money during an upscale family trip to Newport, Rhode Island.
